Owner & Vessel Registration

Register who you are, your primary boat, and your MMSI — then use that identity across exports, incidents, and the AIS catalogue.

Overview

Intrepid Mariner separates who you are (owner) from what you boat on (primary vessel). Both live under Skipper → Vessel and feed exported PDFs, maintenance reports, incidents, and the AIS vessel list.

Solo owner-operators If you own and run the boat yourself, enter your name once under Owner & Contact. The app keeps owner identity separate from hull registration so exports stay clear for insurance and the yard.

Primary vessel name

The primary vessel is your boat — not customer's boats or associate vessels. Use the exact name you want on PDF letterheads and maintenance paperwork.

  1. Open Skipper → Vessel.
  2. Tap Primary Vessel Registration.
  3. Enter Primary vessel name (required for a complete record).
  4. Add home port, dimensions, and registration identifiers as needed.
  5. Tap Save Primary Vessel.

Skipper quick edits (photos, make/model) may still open a vessel sheet, but the authoritative registry is always Skipper → Vessel → Primary Vessel Registration.

Thru-hull locations

Document each thru-hull with a clear label, position on the hull, notes, and as many photos as you need. Useful for damage control, haul-out, and insurance reference.

  1. Open Skipper → Vessel.
  2. Under Thru-Hull Locations, tap Manage thru-hulls.
  3. Add a label (for example “Port engine raw-water intake”), position, and photos.
  4. Repeat for each fitting; edit or delete items anytime.

MMSI and the AIS catalogue

MMSI (Maritime Mobile Service Identity) is the nine-digit number broadcast on AIS and programmed into DSC radios. Enter it once on the primary vessel panel as a nine-digit number; the app mirrors the record into your AIS catalogue.

Where to view the synced AIS entry

  1. On the registration panel — AIS Catalogue Entry section (read-only preview).
  2. Logbook tab → AIS → Vessel List → Primary vessel section (pinned at top).
Friends & clubs are separate File other people’s boats under Logbook → AIS → Friends or Clubs. Only your primary vessel is managed from Skipper → Vessel.

Boat network & AISHub (experimental — next release)

Experimental preview Connecting to the boat network (vessel Wi‑Fi NMEA, boat video) and AIS features (catalogue, AISHub live positions) are experimental. Active development continues; a fuller boat-network and AIS suite is planned for the next release. Not for primary navigation — use your chartplotter and official charts underway.

AISHub live positions (when available in your build):

  1. Reliable live data requires your own AIS contributor station — typically a Raspberry Pi or equivalent with an AIS receiver and dispatcher software feeding AISHub.
  2. After MMSIs are filed under Logbook → AIS, use the AISHub controls where shown (Utilities / boat network) to test and listen.
  3. Without that pipeline, use manual position entry on each vessel record.

Vessel Wi‑Fi NMEA TCP (Raymarine / Axiom gateway) is a separate experimental path for your boat’s position on radar — More → Utilities → Boat Network (Experimental) → NMEA TCP Feed.

First-time setup checklist

  1. Open Skipper → Vessel.
  2. Owner & Contact — name, phone, email.
  3. Primary Vessel Registration — vessel name, home port, MMSI.
  4. Optionally document thru-hulls with photos for damage-control reference.
  5. Confirm the AIS Catalogue Entry section shows your MMSI.
  6. Open Logbook → AIS → Vessel List and verify the primary vessel badge.
  7. Export a sample PDF from Reports or Maintenance to confirm headers.
